D&D News and Information for Dungeon Masters and Players

Since there’s not out there to talk about, I might as well start in with The Campaign. This has been in my head for about ten years. Some of it is down on paper, but most of it is in my head. It’s a cross-setting (mostly Forgotten Realms, but a little Greyhawk) super module that starts the characters at first level and takes them through where they basically save the world. I might even have a chance to take someone through this soon, so I’d appreciate any comments. I’ll be spinning you through as a player, so there won’t be any spoilers. The campaign is best played with a five character party, with two fighters, a cleric, a wizard of some sort, and a rogue.
I’m also hoping as I go through this, that I’ll put more pen to it then I have right now. Like I said, most of it is in my head in some sort. Eventually I’d like to get it all down on the computer, but as always, time is the key.
Not a lot going on that’s worth posting. I was hoping to have some cool products to tell you about over at NobleKnight.com, but they didn’t have much in their latest inventory update.
The official Forgotten Realms website has posted Room Four in their Return to Undermountain series. This week we have the Hall of Mirrors. Very cool concept, although I’ve seen the monster concept done before. Be sure to check it out.
Also worth checking out, the main D&D page has a new series on magic and the basics for using it in your campaign.
Alright, I’m looking to expand my 3E library. Right now, I don’t have a ton of stuff. I have the three core rulebooks (v3.5), Monster Manual II, and the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.
What I’m looking for are your favorite products (looking at things as a DM). Doesn’t matter whether it’s an offical product or third party, I just want opinions so I can evaluate what to buy next that will give me the most bang for my buck.
I own this product, and for a while Evermore Entertainment did a nice job supporting, even having a mailing list where questions were bounced around. Other then some downloads at Planet AD&D, it doesn’t appear that anyone is doing anything with this.
I know this is a 2E product, but it was very impressive product. I even had the expansion, so basically I had just about everything I needed to play the game on CD. If anyone knows of a site that supports this, or even just has some goodies for download, drop me a comment.
I ran across this looking for books at Amazon.com and really couldn’t believe my eyes. It’s supposed to incorporate every creature from Monster Manual and it retails for $100. Even the Amazon.com price of $68 is tough to swallow. Looks like reviews are mixed.
If you’ve ever played or ran this, leave a comment because I’m really interested in knowing whether this would be worth picking up.
Over on the right is a banner link to Planet AD&D’s top 100 D&D sites. You can help me move up the ladder by clicking and going to my site and giving me a nice rating
. Or you can go and slam me if you don’t like what you see.
Some of the stuff looks very cool. You can check out the previews by following this link.
The one I’m probably most interested in is the Heroes of Battle. Sounds like a very cool supplement, providing rules for battlefield conditions. I have the original Battle Systems, and I found it somewhat tedious and clumsy. If they have some pretty good rules for large scale combat, this will be worth the price by itself.
The one I’m probably most skeptical about is the DM’s Guide II. Not sure what this will add, but I’ll have to flip through it at the bookstore and read the Amazon.com reviews before I decide to pick this one up.
If anyone’s had a good campaign on Eberron, drop me a line. I’ve never purchased any of the products because of my near 20 years famiarity with the Realms. I’m interested to hear people’s opinions on it one way or the other.
The Forgotten Realms page has added Room 3 – The Antimagic Room, to their website. These are well worth downloading, and even if you never really want to play Undermountain, the individual rooms make great dungeon idea.
The Forgotten Realms master, Ed Greenwood, has done a nice series on Melvos Hammerstars, a Sembian Merchant. You can check out the current four parts below:
Upcountry Sembia
Hall and House
Taxes, Fees and Avoiding Them
There’s Nothing so Useful to a Sembian as a Secret
As always, some great stuff to mix into your campaign if you’re in that neck of the wood. Ed Greenwood does a fantastic job of bringing the Realms to life.
